Newcastle United Used To Drive Up ‘Transfer Target’ Wages
The transfer market is a tangled web of smoke, mirrors and downright lies.
In the case of Newcastle United and Curtis Davies of Hull, you can make your own mind up.
Last weekend a story emerged claiming that Newcastle were looking to do a deal, one which would see [intlink id=”43725″ type=”post”]Curtis Davies heading to Newcastle and Steven Taylor & £4m heading down to Humberside.[/intlink]
This morning however, surprise surprise, the local press in Hull are reporting that Curtis Davies is now scheduled to meet Hull’s Chief Executive Ehab Allam to ‘thrash out new terms’, even though the central defender still has two years left on his contract.
The proposed talks come on the back of the fact that Hull’s two big signings in January, Nikica Jelavic and Shane Long, are both on £60,000 a week deals, substantially more than Club Captain Curtis Davies.
With a first ever European campaign to look forward to, Hull are desperate to retain Davies and build their defence around him, with rumours of a move for out of contract Joleon Lescott to play alongside him.
So Hull will keep their Captain, Curtis Davies will pick up extra £££, Steven Taylor stays at St.James’ Park and Newcastle fans will move on to the next transfer tale(s).
