Newcastle United Squad Taken Apart Plus 16 Possible Signings
My brother and I have gone through the current squad and given what we think should/will happen with the Newcastle United squad this summer.
We’ve also highlighted the targets we would like Newcastle to get over the line. Obviously we have tried to be realistic (EG Messi would be a great signing…).
Krul – Tim is a great keeper but prone to mistakes and periods of bad form (he is only human). Although it would be tough to see him go, I think if we could get between £10-12mill for him we should take it, IF a suitable replacement such as detailed below can be brought in.
Elliot – Good reserve keeper, has shown on a few occasions last season that he has good ability to stand in when required.
Woodman – Getting great reviews from the England U17 tournament this year, definitely one for the future, hold onto him (21 year old Jak Alnwick is also on the books).

Forster – Would be difficult as Celtic give him Champions League football, but being a Geordie boy, and that fact that when he left he said he wants to come back as he has unfinished business, makes me think we could get him. Hopefully Newcastle put some sort of buy-back clause in his contract. If we didn’t, I think it would take at least £8-10mill to get him, but he definitely would be worth it.
Marshall/Ruddy – Both of these guys were relegated from the Premier league last season. Both would be a good acquisition if we were to sell Krul and were not able to get Forster. Ruddy could probably come for around £5m, Marshall more like £8m.
Coloccini – Newcastle skipper, he’s great, enough said.
Santon – Keep or sell, I wouldn’t mind. If we could get a good price for him (£5-6mill) then I say sell, as he is inconsistent and will not be first choice left back next season.
Williamson – Had an awesome season and turned many people’s opinion of him. However, I feel we need a better standard of CB. Therefore keep, but not first choice.
MYM – I have previously [intlink id=”43772″ type=”post”]written an article on how I feel on Mapou[/intlink] He should stay and get more game time, he is a potential Newcastle long-term first teamer.
(S)Taylor – Provided many great moments over his career but could be time for Stevie to head out. Not first choice by any means, and now he is taking up space required to get youngsters experience instead. Sell on for £2-3mill (hopefully).
Haidara – This kid must be first choice left back next season. So much potential. He is quick, strong and has a wicked left boot (and is actually a left footed player playing on the left, for once).
Debuchy – I love this man, he is by far one of our best players, a class act. He will no doubt have an amazing World Cup. However, this will further push the rumours of potential suitors coming in for his services. I would hate to see him leave, but I think it may be inevitable. Get £12-15mill for him and we will have done OK, but I would much prefer to see him stay.
(R)Taylor – This Geordie legend needs to get his fitness sorted and playing again. No doubt he will be a squad player, but what a useful man to have coming off the bench. I wish him all the best and good and FULL recovery.
Ferguson – Obviously isn’t cutting it at championship level, therefore I am of the thinking that he will not make it at Newcastle. Shame, as in the past he has looked decent, and has a hell of a cross on him. However, we cannot afford to carry deadweight anymore, as it stops us being able to bring in talent that can make it. Sell (£1m?).
Good – This boy looks the real deal, showed promise in the Scottish Prem, and made debut for the Aussies before getting injured. Big shame for him to miss the World Cup. This guy needs to be in the first team squad next season, or at least get a decent loan to a Championship team.
Dummett – Has had both good and bad patches this past season. Only young though, so give him another chance in the first team squad next year as back up to Haidara.
Micah Richards – If Debuchy does go, then I think we should go for this guy. He is quick, strong and attack minded (like Debuchy). I think he would be a welcome addition anyway, but if Debuchy goes then he is a great replacement. He will be looking for a team he can play lots of game for as he needs to prove himself again after sitting on the City bench for so long. I reckon it would take £4-6mill to get him in.
Steve Caulker – Would be a great partner to Colo at the back, but I think it will be unlikely as ‘bigger’ clubs will be after the relegated man. Saod to have £8m release clause.
Sissoko – Man mountain, must stay.
Anita – Hopefully will improve as still young. Has some great abilities but sometimes looks fragile.
HBA – Would love him to stay. He will probably play out the last year of his contract and leave on a free, which will be a real shame. Maybe he can change things around and improve his standing in the squad. If we do sell, get at least £5-8m. Worth so much more but I think Newcastle want rid.
Bigirimana – Looked good when he played the season before last, and then we didn’t see him once in the Premier League last season. He was tipped as our new Tiote, so I hope he continues along that line and we keep hold of him to fulfil his potential.
Marveaux – Flashes of brilliance, flashes of awfulness. I would be happy for him to stay and be an impact sub, but I think it most likely that he goes to free up the wage bill, which may not be too bad. Maybe get £3-4m for him.
Tiote – What a rock.
Abeid – After his good season in Greece, I think he deserves a chance in the first team squad. If in the first few months he does not seem to be progressing or coping, look for a loan from Christmas and then get rid in the summer. He has the potential but can Newcastle extract it from him?
Colback – Good squad signing, nice to have a Geordie in the ranks other than Stevie. Has a lot to prove and hopefully will do so in our colours now.
Grenier – We have been heavily linked and he could be awesome for Newcastle. Really hope this one gets over that damn line.
Cabella – As above, would be a quality addition
Ince – Splits opinion. I think if we could get him he would be great, especially as he is a free agent. However, many people think he is over-hyped. I think the talent he has shown is more than enough proof to give him some serious thought.
Siem De Jong– Quality attacking midfielder, exactly what we need. Maybe not our first choice but definitely a good option.
Rodwell – Would be a great signing. He has pace, power and the ability to finish. He has wasted a large part of his career and development sitting on the bench at Man City. A player who will be looking for a new club to prove himself.
Townsend – Seems to be a bit surplus to requirement at Spurs, playing an impact sub role. I think he would be a good addition, however, there are other targets I would prefer.
Ayew – Looks to be a class act. Young, quick and skilful. As with Townsend, would be a useful addition, but maybe there is better available.
Cisse – No-one will be buying him any time soon, so we are left hoping to see him scoring goals for fun like when he arrived. He needs confidence, hopefully he will recover from his injury and get playing like he used to.
Gouffran – Love this guy’s work rate, great to have in the team, he stays.
Sammy Ameobi – Big season for him, make or break…….. I have a feeling it will be break.
Armstrong – Big things expected. Probably best to send him out on loan to the Championship or Scotland, however, I would also be happy for him to play in the reserves whilst also getting some first team squad time.
Campbell – So much promise but then a disappointing season out on loan. Hopefully a good summer pre-season will see him in the first team squad and banging in the goals. Having two young local Geordie lads leading the line and fighting over the no. 9 shirt will be something I would love to see…
Perez – New young signing, looks to have a lot of potential. Great to see Newcastle buying for the future. Hopefully he can spend a season in the development/reserves squad and get used to the physicality of English football, then hit the ground running in the not too distant future.
Aubameyang – We chased him before he went to Germany. He showed prior to that move, and since, that he can score goals. He would be a great signing and one I hope we go after. If we could get him for anything less than £13-15m, I would think that is a bargain.
Lacazette – What a quality striker this forward looks to be. Young, quick and a good finisher. We should be going after himas hard as we can, make him feel wanted, and make him sense that we are going to actually try and achieve something this season.
Lasogga – This deal seems to be wrapping up and I do hope that proves true. Only 22 so plenty of time to progress, a great addition if we can get him over the line.
Gomis – I go back and forth on Gomis. The way this deal has dragged out has done my head in. Seeing his contract out and seemingly on the lookout for the highest wage. If he does accept our terms and signs, I could see him being a very dangerous player for Newcastle.
Hopefully, if the right squad is available in August, Newcastle United will actually give the fans something to shout about once again.
