Newcastle Star Asks Alan Shearer’s Advice
Comeback man Ryan Taylor has revealed he sought the advice of Alan Shearer before he went ahead with what could have been make or break surgery.
In advance of asking respected American knee specialist Richard Steadman to repair his cruciate ligament which he ruptured twice in seven months.
Speaking to the Shields Gazette Ryan said;
“I spoke to people who’d been over to America and had come back from the same injury.
“Everybody was so positive about the place and they gave me the green light.
When Taylor had a relapse on 2013 after seemingly completing most of his rehabilitation it was a lot to take in
“I knew I had done something but I tried to convince myself it was not the same injury.
“I tried to remain positive until I had the scan, there was just one twist with nobody near me in training.
After the scan it did not sink in until I came back in – there were tears in the doc’s room and I didn’t know what to do at the time.”
Shearer of course came back after his horrific pre-season injury at Goodison Park in 1997 and score over 170 goals for United, a great success story to inspire Ryan Taylor.
