Who Should Be Newcastle Left-Back Next Season? Vote Now

Maybe the position most under scrutiny towards the end of last season, was that of Newcastle Left-Back.

Whilst United are desperate for strikers and creative midfielders this summer, that left full-back slot is seemingly still up for grabs.

Last season saw Davide Santon, Paul Dummett and Massadio Haidara all given a chance, to greater or lesser degrees, with none of the three totally convincing.

Santon started the season well but then lost his way, Dummett had a decent run of games but looked exposed when up against quality opponents such as Everton at home, while we didn’t see enough of Haidara to properly judge him.

Whilst Dummett signed a long-term contract during last season and looks as though he’ll be staying no matter what, there have been claims that Haidara has been offered to French clubs, while Santon has recently stated that AC Milan and AS Roma are interested in signing him but he’s happy on Tyneside.

This morning brought claims in The Journal that the club could sell Santon with Haidara being the likely first choice to start the season.

Whether Ashley cashes in on the high waged Santon in favour of a cheaper option or not, a new readymade bought in left-back seems a non-starter.

So on that basis which of these four would you like to see start the season as first choice left-back – new signing Colback included as he’s also played at full-back as well as in midfield.
