Mystery Over Newcastle Bid For Pierre-Michel Lasogga
Confusion reigns over Newcastle United’s chase for German striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga.
Recent days had seen claims that the player’s preference was to stay in Germany and that a deal with Hamburg was expected to be tied up shortly, especially in light of claims that after Newcastle’s talks with the player they’d refused to up their wage offer to an acceptable level for Lasogga and his representatives.
The Hamburg offer for the Hertha Berlin striker was being financed by one of the club’s investors, businessman Klaus-Michael Kuehne.
While as a general principle, German clubs are majority owned by the supporters, close links with big business/investors helps to finance the running of Bundesliga clubs.
Now it is reported by the Chronicle however, that Kuehne is wanting changes in the management structure at Hamburg and this factor could delay any funds from the businessman for players such as Lasogga.
Speaking about his potential further investment, Klaus Michael Kuehne has said;
“I think it would be good if the money were used to keep Lasogga.”
However, he also has made clear that he wants to have more say in the decision making at the club, recently also stating;
“As a private citizen and fan I can only say I do not believe in the coach and in my opinion he must be replaced.”
A further complication reported by the Chronicle is that Kuehne also wants to force changes behind the scenes, with General Manager Oliver Kreuzer in his sights, Kreuzer believed to be the main driving force behind setting up the potential Lasogga deal.
