Mathieu Debuchy ‘Thing I Love Is Our Attacking Play’
Mathieu Debuchy has declared ‘The thing I love is our attacking play’ and you won’t be surprised to discover that he’s talking about France rather than Newcastle United.
While Newcastle still have no goalscorers or creative players who’ll be available at the start of the season, Debuchy and Sissoko have helped France to eight goals in two matches and have looked as good as any other team so far.
Speaking ahead of the final group match against Ecuador on Wednesday, Debuchy raved about the influence of Didier Deschamps, loving his new haircut, and the excitement of potentially playing at the ‘mythical’ Maracana.
“The thing I love is our attacking play, it’s great to be part of it.
“It is great to play in this side as we have taken a huge step forward.
“It (the French players’ families are being allowed to visit) will do us good to have a break with our partner, we get to spend one night and the following morning so there is no problem with us becoming unsettled.
“I want to play against Ecuador but it could be a good chance to get other players involved – that is up to the coach to decide.
“I don’t count myself as a starter in the side, I just take it one match at a time.”
“The Maracana is a mythical place and it doesnn’t get any better than playing there in a World Cup.
“Deschamps is the ideal coach and we communicate with him a lot which is important.
“We all know what he was like as a player and he has not lost that – it is part of his character.
“I know people mention it (his new haircut) quite a bit and I really like it.”
