Liverpool Judge Tells Newcastle Fan ‘You Must Wonder What Planet We Are Living On’
A Newcastle fan appearing on trial in a Liverpool court was told by the judge, “You must wonder what planet we are living on”, when he heard the case for the defence.
United fan Brendan James Slevin was at Anfield on the final day of the season and during banter between Liverpool and Newcastle fans, Slevin claimed he was reacting to a derogatory word directed at him when he shouted, “black ****.”

The solicitor acting for the Newcastle fan claimed on his behalf that;
“In Durham, someone is scruffy or dirty when somebody is described as black, though he appreciates a steward or anybody else who heard him might have thought it was racist.”
The 32 year of defendant admitted a charge of racist chanting but used the argument as mitigation.
However, the District Judge was having none of it and while fining him £200 plus £105 costs, he added;
“You must wonder what planet we are living on.”
