Italian Reports Roma In Negotiations For Davide Santon
While Jack Colback was posing for photographs at St.James’ Park today, over in Italy there are simultaneous claims that AS Roma are currently negotiating with Newcastle United for the transfer of Davide Santon.
Recent days had seen [intlink id=”43650″ type=”post”]the player himself reveal that both AC Milan and AS Roma[/intlink] had shown interest in signing him but he wasn’t sure if Newcastle would sell him, plus he’d be happy to stay at United anyway as he’s settled on Tyneside.
Whether the capture of Jack Colback will make any difference to Santon’s position at the club is open to question, as well as midfield Colback has played at full-back as well, plus both Dummett and Haidara also played a number of times last season when Santon was injured.
The Corriere Dello Sport are reporting that Champion League bound Roma see Santon as a great addition to their squad with him being able to play on both flanks.
However, they also say that at the moment Roma are some way off being prepared to pay the €10m (£8m) that Newcastle are allegedly demanding for his signature.
Instead, the Italian newspaper’s sources claim that Roma have instead offered €6m (around £5m) but are prepared to deal at €8m (around £6.5m).
With Santon losing his way a bit last season and the lack of fluidity and movement via Pardew’s tactics leaving his dribbling ability and movement largely redundant, you wouldn’t be surprised to see Ashley dealing on a player who will be one of the higher wage earners and with cheaper replacements available already at the club.
