Greek Club Now Make (Don’t) Pay As You Go Offer For Newcastle United’s Mehdi Abeid
This morning there are claims that Greek club Panathinaikos, are making a (don’t) pay as you go offer for Newcastle midfielder Mehdi Abeid.
Following earlier reports that the club where he spent last year on loan, were willing to pay around £300,000 to make the deal permanent, it is instead believed that Panathinaikos want to pay nothing up from but share equally any future potential transfer fee if he is sold on in the future.
The Chronicle have stated that Abeid is due at St.James’ Park on Tuesday to try and sort a permanent move to the Greek club.
Mehdi Abeid of course had a great first season over in Greece, scoring double figures in terms of goals and helping his on-loan club win the Greek Cup and qualify for the Champions League.
However, the Greek Superleague isn’t that super in terms of money swilling around and Champions League bonus cash is unlikely to be much help.
Olympiakos walked the league last season and as Champions will go straight to the riches of the Group stage.
However, Panathinaikos will enter at the third qualifying round stage and will be big outsiders to successfully navigate both that and the play-off round which would see them join Champions Olympiakos in the group stage.
So if Newcastle aren’t willing to bend a long way to help a deal take place, we may yet see if Mehdi Abeid has done enough to still play a part at Newcastle United.
