A busy summer looms for Shola Ameobi, as it has been revealed that the Newcastle striker is a target for Australian club Sydney FC and the Aussie club have made their first transfer move for the striker.

With confirmation only hours ago that he is [intlink id=”43579″ type=”post”]the plane to Brazil as part of the Nigeria squad[/intlink], there could be more sunshine ahead if Shola decides to head down under.

The Australian club have confirmed that they’ve made contact with Ameobi’s agent to sound out the possibility of a transfer to the southern hemisphere.

Shola’s contract at Newcastle ends on June 30 and so by the later stages of the World Cup he will be able to put pen to paper for any new club.

Newcastle of course[intlink id=”43461″ type=”post”] play Sydney FC on July 22 in New Zealand[/intlink], only nine days after the World Cup final, so there is the possibility of the two Ameobis facing each other.

The pace of the Australian A-League may well suit Ameobi, with even Emile Heskey proving a in 2012/13 for Newcastle Jets, scoring nine goals in twenty three matches, though he has reverted to type this past season with one goal in nineteen appearances.

The A-League may though be on the rise in terms of profile and quality, with the likes of David Villa and Frank Lampard also already linked with possible moves down under.

With less than 2 weeks to go before the start of the World Cup in Brazil, BetVictor are giving you the chance of a lifetime to win seats to the final of the greatest sporting event on the planet!
