Austrian Reports Link Newcastle With Jonathan Soriano
Reports in Austria have linked Jonathan Soriano with a move to Newcastle United.
The message out of St.James’ Park has recently been that the club are still claiming to be targeting younger players who will hopefully increase in value, if that is the case then Soriano will surely not be on the hit list.
The privately backed Red Bull Salzburg have won the Austrian league title the last two seasons, with 57 goals in 61 league appearances by Soriano being a big help towards that.
The striker had seen very little first team football, or goals, before his move to Salzburg.
Despite scoring plenty of goals for Barcelona’s reserve team, the striker had no future in La Liga and relocated for a bargain £300,000 in January 2012.
While his age would appear likely to rule him out, it becomes increasingly difficult to see where Newcastle will recruit credible goalscorers from, unless Mike Ashley broadens his horizons, and a relatively low transfer fee would obviously appeal to the Newcastle owner.
A risk has to be taken at sometime, and whether that is going to be from the lowly Austrian league, may well depend on when the panic button is eventually pressed as Newcastle desperately try to recruit some goals into the team.
