3 Years Ago Today Newcastle Signed A Striker
Three years ago today, 17 June 2011, Newcastle United signed a striker – Demba Ba.
I remember the impact his signing had, virtually nothing.
Fans were still depressed that Andy Carroll had been cashed in and nobody to replace him – what chance a free transfer from relegated West Ham?

What followed was 29 goals in only 54 Premier League matches, a record of better than a goal every two games.
Sadly, just like Loic Remy who eventually followed him, Ba was also in reality just a loan signing – albeit one that Mike Ashley picked up over £7m for.
Ashley was never prepared to pay Ba what he wanted long-term, while the player himself clearly didn’t see his long-term future on Tyneside.
So we are left with the unfortunate position of not even really acknowledging that arguably our best striker since Alan Shearer was even ever here.
There may be some of you who might think Loic Remy, or even Papiss Cisse, was a better striker but just watch the compilation below to convince otherwise.
Demba Ba – not forgiven but not forgiven either.
