The Newcastle transfer rumours season is now well and truly open, it doesn’t stop the media doing it the rest of the year of course, but this period before the World Cup begins will be truly manic.

Kicking it off, we saw an ‘exclusive’ as the Sunday People reported that Newcastle were looking to pay Aston Villa £15m for their duo, central midfielder Fabian Delph and Andreas Weimann, who is a winger that can make and score goals.

If you really believe that Mike Ashley/Alan Pardew are serious about going for proven Premier League players then this is where it all goes a bit pear-shaped.

Villa have been worse than Newcastle this season but what exactly have we to offer players that the likes of Villa don’t.

More to the point, Delph and Weimann have been first choice players throughout the season, and indeed alongside Benteke, Delph is viewed as one of Villa’s best couple of players.

The newspaper report claimed that Weimann was rated at £9m, so then you are looking at around £6m for Delph according to their story.

Villa took a long-term view when they paid £8m for an 18 year old Fabian Delph and have now turned him into a first choice Premier League regular. In today’s crazy transfer market just how much is a talented English central midfielder worth?

If Newcastle are going to bring in proven Premier League quality then they will have to pay Premier League transfer fees and wages.

Over to Mike Ashley.
