Players In Newcastle Squad Voted By Fans Good Enough For Next Season

Which players in the current Newcastle squad do you rate as being good enough for next season?

We asked the question and thousands of you responded, 26 players to choose from, but how many are rated by the fans as being fit for purpose?

This is how we phrased it;

‘Looking forward to August, we want to know who you think out of the current squad is good enough to be in the Newcastle United first 18 next season.

Not a case of having to pick 18 out of what we currently have, more you deciding who would you be happy with and choose to have in the NUFC first 18 to compete next season.

Remember, this is all about Newcastle United needing at least a squad of 18 who are good enough to compete in the Premier League.

New signings are obviously essential but how many of these present players are good enough – pick as many, or as few, as you like.’

This is how you rated the players with the percentage of fans to the left of each player’s name, who think they are good enough for next season’s first 18;

98% Debuchy

98% Krul

96% Sissoko

96% Tiote

93% Coloccini

83% Ben Arfa

82% Gouffran

81% Santon

80% Haidara

78% Remy

72% Anita

70% Williamson

69% Mapou

57% Armstrong

45% Cisse

44% Abeid

43% Steven Taylor

41% Elliot

39% Dummett

37% Bigirimana

35% Sammy Ameobi

31% Marveaux

20% Tavernier

8% Shola

4% De Jong

1% Obertan

So when it comes to a consensus amongst supporters as to who is good enough, and remember this is not even necessarily good enough to be first team – just for the first team squad, you rated only 14 of the current squad good enough to fit into next season’s first 18.

It gets more worrying when you consider that one of them (Loic Remy) was just on loan and there appears to be no chance of signing permanently, another (Ben Arfa) looks to have no future under Pardew and is on his way out, while Mapou and Haidara had little chance last season despite a shocking number of goals conceded.

That then leaves ten other players, with many of them (Debuchy, Sissoko etc) having question marks as to whether they will still be here next season due to the lack of ambition under Mike Ashley.

Talk of only ‘one or two’ new signings is frightening but even if the five or six now being popularly speculated does become reality, then that
