Peter Beardsley ‘Mike Ashley And Alan Pardew Have Been Top Class’
Peter Beardsley has stated that he’d love to continue looking after the Newcastle United Under 21s, with the Newcastle playing legend insisting that ‘Mike Ashley and Alan Pardew have been top class’ in helping him at the club.
Beardsley was put in temporary charge in February after Willie Donachie was forced to resign after allegedly striking young defender Remie Streete.
As well as a shocking lack of communication with the fans , it appears things are little better inside the club as when the Shields Gazette asked Beardsley whether he would like to continue as the Under 21s coach he said;
“Nobody’s said a word to me, but absolutely, I love it.
“I enjoyed assisting Willie who was top class and obviously I would be delighted to be in charge, if that is to be the case.
“I’ll do whatever they want me to do at this football club.
“The owner (Ashley) and manager (Pardew) have been top class.
“I am a bit more relaxed – it is not all about winning.
“Don’t get me wrong as there are times when you want to win, like the (Northumberland) Senior Cup, we are trying to marry the two together.”
It’s just as well that Peter doesn’t rank winning as the be all and end all, taking into account the fact that since he took over the Under 21s have a record in their Premier League matches of won one, drawn one and lost seven.
To be fair this is only slightly worse than the reserves/Under 21s overall record of only four wins in their full season of twenty one league matches, with only Blackburn keeping Newcastle from being rock bottom of the twenty two clubs.
Sadly, with such a dismal record over the past year,it is difficult to see many/any potential first team squad candidates emerging.
