One Award Alan Pardew And All Newcastle Managers Are Safe From Under Ashley

It seems like an awful long time ago  but it is only two years since Alan Pardew was the darling of the League Managers Association (LMA), stepping up to accept their overall Manager Of The Year award, as well as Premier League manager of the year, after leading Newcastle United to fifth.

Last night it was the latest LMA awards and despite winning the Premier League with Manchester City, a bemused Manuel Pellegrini must be having a right laugh as he watched two Premier League managers pick up awards, neither of which was him!

Tony Pulis won the Premier League Manager Of The Year for the job he’s done at Crystal Palace, voted for by the other 19 Premier League managers.

While Brendan Rodgers was then awarded the overall Manager Of The Year thanks to the voting of the other 91 managers across the four divisions.

However, there was one award that made me laugh and which I’m assuming must be new, as I have never heard of it before and can find no trace of it being awarded before.

Step forward Nigel Clough, this season’s FA Cup Manager Of The Year!

They must be having a laugh, surely the only FA Cup manager of the year is the one that wins it? Quite appropriate then that they are handing out the award before the FA Cup final has even taken place…

For the record, Nigel Clough was awarded it, with his League One Sheffield United beating Fulham and Aston Villa, on the way to reaching the semi-final before Hull knocked them out. Much as I despise Steve Bruce, if he can bring Hull their first ever silverware by beating Arsenal, surely he should have got the award. Anyway, at least that’s cheered me up, realising the traitor might still get upset even if he wins the FA Cup!

With Mike Ashley’s strict policy on not competing in the cups, woe betide any Newcastle manager making the fatal mistake of actually trying in the cup competitions. They might pick up the prestigious ‘FA Cup Manager Of The Year’ award but they could well be also picking up their P45 for disobeying orders.
