Revealed today that Papiss Cisse has had the operation that will see him lucky to be fit again for the start of next season, or even be out as long as until Christmas..

The Senegalese striker was forced off against Swansea and now the club have confirmed that Cisse went under the knife.

The operation on the fractured patella (kneecap) was carried out on Thursday in Paris, with a recovery period measuring months rather than weeks.

Papiss Cisse turns 29 next month and with three years still left on his contract, it appears unlikely that he will be heading off anywhere else this summer. As to when he will play again for United is also open to question as apparently it isn’t the easiest operation to get over.

The rehabilitation for Cisse will be overseen at the Clairefontaine centre over in France, before the striker returns to Newcastle ahead of next season.
