Newcastle Reported To Have Approached Saido Berahino
It is now reported that Newcastle United are said to have already made an initial approach to bring Saido Berahino to St.James’ Park this summer.
The 20 year old scored 9 goals in 35 matches (all competitions) in the season just ended, plus he has also netted 6 times in 5 games for England Under 21s.
The winner at Old Trafford in September was also Berahino’s first ever Premier League goal and git him plenty of attention, with a number of rival clubs said to have been monitoring his progress throughout the season.
Newcastle’s initial overtures are said to have been met with a need for West Brom to sort out their managerial situation before any players are bought or sold, according to the Mail.
The striker is said to have been unsettled after Berahino was unhappy with the Baggies’ handling of a dressing room bust up after a match against Cardiff, when James Morrison was alleged to have thrown a punch at the England Under 21 player.
One interesting aside is that along with Gael Bigirimana, Saido Berahino was initially named in the senior Burundi squad for an African Nations Qualifier that takes place later this month.
However, subsequently both their names disappeared off that squad list and indeed Berahino has been named in the England Under 21 squad that will compete in the Toulon tournament starting next Wednesday (21 May).
