Newcastle Player On The Move – ‘Just A Shame The Football Side Of Things Hasn’t Worked Out’

In the strange world of Newcastle United, Alan Pardew pledged to give youth a chance and then didn’t give a single player under the age of 21 a Premier League start in the season just ended.

Even more bizarre, was the fact that despite Dan Gosling not having his contract renewed, he started four of the last six matches and came on as a sub in another.

Now the departing midfielder has talked to the official club website about his time at St.James’ Park;

“I have been lucky enough to be part of a great set of lads and made some really top friends, both players and staff.

“I have built some really good relationships but it is just a shame the football side of things hasn’t worked out how I would have liked it to.

“Every player wants to play week in and week out, I’m no different.

“The competition was good and the season we finished 5th we were winning most weeks and so you can’t change a winning team, I know that.

“Slowly but surely I got in the team, unfortunately it was probably too little, too late.”

Gosling leaves with a record over 4 years of never been on the winning side for Newcastle in a Premier League match he started.

A signing that Newcastle made for all the wrong reasons, taking advantage of a contract farce and grabbing a player for nothing who was out with a serious injury and who clearly has never fully recovered from it.

The fact Alan Pardew gave Dan Gosling four (4 matches between 5/4/14 and 28/4/14) of his five Premier League starts after clearly the club had already decided they weren’t renewing…just sums up the chaotic and incompetent nature of the running of the club under Mike Ashley.
