Newcastle Midfielder’s 10th Goal Of Season Puts Club On Brink Of Champions League
While other Newcastle on loan players are generally having a desperate time this season, Medhi Abeid is having fun in the sun.
Abeid scored the tenth goal of his loan spell for Panathinaikos on Wednesday night, helping the Greek club to a 3-1 win over Asteros Tripolis and in prime position for Champions League qualification.
However, in Greece they then have a four team mini-league between those who finished in the next four places to decide who else qualifies.
Panathinaikos now sit top with seven points from three matches, three points clear of the rest, with it now being theirs to lose.
Good luck to Medhi Abeid and it could prove an interesting situation if his on loan club did make it into the Champions League group stage.
Despite Abeid’s success at that level (remember how rubbish Atroimitos were when we played them in the Europa League – they finished above Panathinaikos on goal difference), it remains to be seen whether Newcastle are keen on keeping him.
With Champions League money the Greek club would surely have the finance then to pay a few quid/Euros for a player who has been an on loan hit, something that I’d guess would very likely be Mike Ashley’s preferred option.
