Newcastle Midfielder Bows Out With Champions League Qualificiation
On loan Newcastle midfielder Mehdi Abeid, has bowed out of his year long spell in Greece by helping Panathinaikos into next season’s Champions League preliminary stages.
Abeid was sent off in the latter stages of Wednesday night’s match but played his part in a 1-1 draw with Newcastle’s one time Europa League opponents, Atromitos.
This result meant that Abeid’s on loan club qualified for the Champions League with one game in their four club mini-league still to play.
Not a bad way to sign off with Mehdi Abeid having already pocketed a medal earlier in the season as Panathinaikos lifted the Greek Cup with his assistance.
As to what will happen now with Mehdi Abeid and Newcastle United is anybody’s guess, though Mike Ashley will no doubt be pleased that at the very least the player’s worth has increased thanks to his year on loan.
The player turns 22 before the start of next season and has two years remaining on his Newcastle contract.
