Press in the south of England have claimed that Newcastle are one of three clubs, along with Villa and Hull, who have expressed an interest in taking Tomas Kalas on loan next season.

The 21 year old Chelsea defender was picked up as an 18 year old from Czech club Sigma and is one of the dozens of Chelsea players who have been regularly out on loan in recent seasons. Kalas spending two seasons at Vitesse Arnhem from 2011-2013.

Already a full international for the Czech Republic, the young player has been involved in the Chelsea squad this season and featured a number of times on the bench and had a little bit of pitch time in the Champions League and domestic cups.

Right-footed, Kalas can play at either right-back or in the middle of the defence.

However, he made a memorable first start in the Premier League as he played centre-back against Liverpool at Anfield in the 2-0 victory which effectively destroyed the scousers’ title challenge.

Jose Mourinho is reported to rate Tomas Kalas but wants him to get experience out on loan at a level higher than the Dutch league again, with a club in England his preference over one in Germany, where a number of Bundesliga clubs have also been alerted to a possible loan.

Whatever happens, you’d have to be pretty naive to doubt that Newcastle won’t use the loan market extensively next season, as Mike Ashley attempts to secure Premier League survival with the cheapest possible outlay.
