Newcastle Duo Pride Of Newcastle and England

While we all get sick of the hype surrounding the England set-up with little substance behind it, nice to see Newcastle duo Freddie Woodman and Adam Armstrong at the heart of something we can all take pride in.

England and Newcastle fans can take a lot of encouragement from the crowning of the Under 17s as European Champions.

Victory over Holland on Wednesday night brought to an end a magnificent campaign with both Armstrong and Woodman central figures in the success.

England drew 1-1 over the 90 minutes with a goal from Dominic Solanke cancelled out by one from Holland’s Jari Schuurman.

With penalties instantly following, no extra time, it was Woodman who got England off to a flyer when he saved the first Dutch spot-kick and they never looked back after that.

Ledson, Moore, Cooke and Kenny al scoring for the Young Lions while the opposition put two of theirs wide of the target.

Woodman’s contribution added to some fine performances, including a crucial penalty save against Turkey in a group game.

Armstrong never left the bench after picking up an ankle injury in the semi-final win over Portugal but he can look back with great satisfaction with nine goals throughout the qualifying period and then finals in Malta.

A big pat on the back as well to United left-back Kyle Cameron who helped Scotland to the semi-finals where their run was ended by the Dutch.
