Napoli Chief ‘We Don’t Think All Newcastle’s Inhabitants Are Rude and Sociopathic’

Newcastle have made it into transfer news with Italian Club Napoli, but don’t get too excited as it involves Manchester United and Danny Welbeck.

The good people of our City have found themselves involved in the middle of a spat between the Guardian newspaper and Napoli.

On Thursday the newspaper reported on interest from Napoli in Man U’s Welbeck and ‘light-heartedly’ stated;

“Napolo Sporting Director Riccardo Bigon has let Welbeck’s agent know that Napoli are interested in signing his client, but with interest from Spurs and Everton, the club from one of Italy’s mafia strongholds will need to make Manchester United an offer they can’t refuse.”

The Mafia reference didn’t go down too well, especially making ‘an offer they can’t refuse’ and has led to Napoli’s Chief Of Communications , Nicola Lombardo, to put out the following in response;

“This is an archaic impression that’s also rejected by English tourists who every year choose Italy, and Napoli, as their holiday destination.

“They wouldn’t do that if they thought that Naples is Italy’s mafia stronghold, a place where people fire at or rob each other in the street.

“We would not judge a city like Newcastle on the basis of Geordie Shore; we don’t think all of that city’s inhabitants are rude, gym-addicted and sociopathic.

“It’s a shame the Guardian didn’t afford Napoli the same courtesy.”
