Mike Ashley Not ‘Actively’ Trying To Sell Newcastle United But Won’t Confirm If Offers Received

Newcastle United have stated that Mike Ashley “is not actively trying to sell the football club (Newcastle United.”

What ‘actively’ means is anybody’s guess but why would you sell something that is given such great free advertising/marketing to the rest of your empire and has helped your wealth increase by one and a half billion in the last year?

The statement from the club came via the latest Fans Forum held at St.James’ Park;

‘Is the club still available for sale if the right offer comes in and have there been any offers or interest shown from and group or individual in the past 12 months?’

“It was stated that the owner is not actively trying to sell the football club.” (Completely ignoring the part asking if there had been any offers…)

A question was also posed regarding why Mike Ashley had joined the NUFC board;

‘What is the rationale behind Mike Ashley becoming a director at NUFC after seven years at the club?’

Mike Ashley’s appointment to the board was a formality to reflect his role in the decision making and would not lead to changes in the day to day operations of the club. He will not be attending Fans Forum meetings.
