Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa Transfer Falls Down Over Wages
After initially showing interest in signing Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Bordeaux have now ended their interest in buying the Newcastle centre-back this summer.
Speaking to the local daily newspaper ‘Southwest’, Bordeaux President, Jean-Louis Triaud told them that Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, “…is far too expensive in terms of wages.”
Three problems Newcastle will run into as they try to get rid of players such as Mapou;
Firstly, the average level of wages in England compared to the defender’s native France.
Secondly, the tax situation over the Channel means French clubs would have to actually pay more than Mapou is getting at St.James’ Park, if the centre-half was to bank the same money after deductions.
Finally, Newcastle gave Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa a five and a half year contract, meaning there is still four years until it runs out in 2018. This enables other clubs to drive an even harder bargain as they know Newcastle are desperate to get him off their long-term wage bill.
Our thanks to top translator Pierre for keeping an eye on what’s happening in France.
The French revolution on Tyneside is all looking a little threadbare these days.
