Kevin Keegan – NUFC A Shambles Under Mike Ashley Unless He Accepts Reality

8 years ago

This video interview with Kevin Keegan was on the day of Alan Pardew’s first ever match, KK a pundit on ESPN as Newcastle beat Liverpool 3-1.

Despite the three and a half year gap, Kevin Keegan’s words still ring as true now as they did back then and in the years in between.

Keegan absolutely slates Mike Ashley (and Derek Llambias who was then MD at NUFC) in the interview and as well as saying how he was lied to and deceived by Ashley and those below him, the biggest truth is in the following;

“Mike Ashley doesn’t know anything about football.

“So what you have to do is get in people who know what they are doing.

“Who you trust with the job and say to them ‘Get on with it’.

“But they don’t even do that, so that’s why it’s a shambles it’s bound to be.”

Three and a half years on and if anything the situation is if anything many times worse than what Keegan was describing back then.

Ashley has learnt absolutely nothing, or probably in reality the situation has just become much more transparent with the puppets working at the club helping fans to realise the stark reality that not trying in the cups and clinging to Premier League survival on the lowest spend possible is the true Mike Ashley plan.

As Kevin says, the club is bound to be a shambles if the owner knows nothing about football and refuses to employ a proper management team to run the club on his behalf, with the resources to run the club in a sensible but ambitious way.

With very little effort by Ashley, Newcastle could be a roaring success, both on and off the pitch.

However, we are are doomed to this soulless existence where the club will drift before it hits that fatal iceberg.

I have a feeling that we won’t have to wait a further three and a half years before we feel that iceberg do its worst.
