Newcastle United’s young players’ Hong Kong Sevens dream has ended, the kids beaten by local side Kitchee in the semi-finals.

United went two up (Aarons and Barlaser) and looked destined for the final, until Kitchee hit back with two quick goals, the first they’d conceded in the competition.

The match ending 2-2 and the rules seeing each side reduced to four players and the first to score (Golden Goal) winning the game.

Peter Beardsley chose Alnwick, Aarons, Williams and Quinn to play extra time but it was the local side who struck first, sending Newcastle out of the competition.

Earlier, United had strolled past Rangers in their quarter finals, with goals coming from Gillesphey, Aarons and Olley.

On Saturday, United kicked off their four team mini league with a 2-0 win over hosts Hong Kong Football Club, thanks to goals from Gilliead and Aarons, they followed that up with a goalless draw against Hong Kong FA U23s.

The final match saw United face Asian Champions Guangzhou Evergrande in Group A, needing to win by two goals to top the league.

Goals from Olley and Aarons (2) sent Newcastle top of the group with a three goal win.
