Freddy Shepherd Tells Mike Ashley How Much He Needs To Spend This Summer
Ex-Newcastle United Chairman, Reddy Shepherd, has told Mike Ashley that he has to spend as much as possible in the transfer market this summer.
In an interview with BBC Newcastle Shepherd claimed that he backed managers with £300m to spend on players, which then led to European football and Wembley visits.
No doubt as we speak, some Newcastle fans will be looking back to see if that figure tallies with the reality of when Shepherd took over as Chairman.
Speaking from the outside now, Shepherd had this to say;
“You can never have enough money and when I was Chairman we spent £300m, got into Europe and went to Wembley, but did not win anything.
“They (Newcastle) need to spend as much as possible – under the circumstances Alan Pardew did what he was told to do and finished in the top ten.
“Manchester United will spend between £50m and £60m and we need to spend as much as £30m to £40m to bring in a couple of good strikers and couple of good defenders.
“If you are not given ammunition then you can’t fire the gun and that was Alan’s (Pardew) problem.
“It is money at the end of the day and every club suffers with injuries and sells players but Newcastle need the money to give Alan Pardew a chance.”
