Championship Striker In Frame For Newcastle
Championship striker Jordan Rhodes is the latest forward to be put in the frame for Newcastle United.
With United needing to sign a number of strikers, we are all left wondering at what level Newcastle will be shopping at this summer under Mike Ashley.
That then leaves the probable choice as a striker from a lesser team abroad, or a gamble on one in England who isn’t the finished article at the top level yet.
After knocking in 74 goals in 131 league appearances for Huddersfield in the lower leagues, Jordan Rhodes couldn’t have done much more than the 51 he’s scored in 89 matches for an average Blackburn in the Championship.
However, the fact he moved to Blackburn for £8m and has then kept on scoring at that next level up, means he is not going to come cheap if Newcastle pursue their interest.
United have been linked with the Scottish striker before and I dare say that a straw poll of fans would rather see a gamble on a homegrown striker(s) this summer, rather than going down the continental route yet again.
