Big Surprise In Newcastle v Cardiff Player Ratings
What were your Newcastle v Cardiff player ratings?
Interesting to get an outside perspective and the industry leader for an independent viewpoint is the whoscored rating system (used by numerous sections of the football industry; including media, bookmakers and clubs themselves).
Over 200 raw statistics are used to calculate the player ratings and are weighted according to influence in the game – taking into account the area of the pitch and its outcome for each important event.
For once Newcastle, unsurprisingly, filled most of the eleven top ratings of the players who started Saturday’s match, only Dummett and Gouffran seeing Cardiff players getting a higher rating.
The big surprise/puzzle (at least to me) was that Shola is once again top of the Newcastle, and indeed match, ratings. Scoring 8.7, as does Debuchy, I know Shola scored a goal but he was also Newcastle’s top rated player for both the Swansea and Stoke matches.
I can only assume that there is some kind of blind spot in the whoscored system that doesn’t take into account mobility or off the ball work…have to say as well that while Debuchy and Sissoko were clearly the best players as far as I was concerned, I think Remy’s lucky to get such a high mark as he still wasn’t anywhere near the level he was at previously.
Subs: Steven Taylor 7.2, Haidara 7.2, Gosling 6.4
