Steven Taylor ‘We Controlled The Game For Forty Minutes’
In the aftermath of the latest dismal display, the recalled Steven Taylor has claimed that the new 3-5-2 formation worked and that rather bizarrely, United controlled the match until Stoke scored – despite rarely getting into the opposition’s half.
You can understand the defender being pleased to be back in the team but yet again he falls victim for being too willing to put himself in front of the press.
Steven Taylor gave the following quotes to the Shields Gazette but maybe he should have kept his silence after a really poor personal display, one that saw him marked down in [intlink id=”41766″ type=”post”]independent ratings[/intlink] as the worst player of the twenty two who kicked off;
“I thought it (playing 3-5-2) worked well and we played some good football – we controlled the game for forty minutes.
“I thought we looked very solid and could not see them breaking us down.
“Our boys pressed them hard and Stoke kept playing from side to side. We got after them and we played some good football when we got the ball.
“We felt comfortable but then the next thing we knew – the ball was in the back of the net, which was a fluke goal from a cross.
“I think it was an improvement and a draw would have been fair result.”
