Shola Ameobi and Steven Taylor Are Put In An Impossible Position At Newcastle United

I hold my hands up and say that I would be happy to never see either of them in black and white ever again, but Shola Ameobi and Steven Taylor have been put in an impossible situation.

While both players are sadly now seen as a bit of a joke by so many Newcastle fans, the two players are at least standing up to be counted in other ways.

Another terrible performance and result at Stoke led to calls for Alan Pardew’s head and the players coming in for stick as well after a depressing ninety minutes.

However, in the aftermath of the ninety minutes it was these two players who came out and faced the press, even though they both must be well aware now that to do so just attracts more stick for the individuals sticking their heads above the parapet.

Some fans will say they should keep their mouths shut and do their talking on the pitch etc etc.

That may be true up to a certain point but just how cowardly would it be if no players at all came out and faced the music?

There were prepared quotes from both Dummett and Coloccini put out by Newcastle United but it is essential for any club that they have players prepared to communicate directly with the fans via the media.

In times gone by it would have been your Alan Shearers, Gary Speeds, Rob Lees and Lee Clarks coming out to represent their club, or even the likes of Kevin Nolan, Andy Carroll and Steve Harper in more modern times would meet the difficult questions head on.

Where are the leaders at the club now? As his English improved, Cabaye was doing more and more but with him jumping ship just who have we got left?

It is not just new players but also new leaders Newcastle need in the summer, and while those inside the club keep repeating the mantra of only one or two players needed, those of us outside simply look at an ever growing shopping list.
