Do You Agree With The Alan Pardew Ratings?
Alan Pardew is currently the second longest serving premiership manager after Wenger and has 150 premiership games under his belt (3rd at his current behind Wenger and Mourinho) and yet there is still considerable debate about his abilities.
He gets a lot of grief for being ‘the mouthpiece’ of Ashley’s ownership regime, which I think is unfair – none of us would go public with opinions which directly contradict our bosses and expect to keep our jobs.
Team selection 6/10
I think our strongest team picks itself and any eleven with a core of Krul, Colocinni, Cabaye and Remy should do well. However, I think our poor record in cup competitions is evidence that Pardew is not capable of juggling a team to cope with multiple competitions.
Tactics and motivation 4/10
Since we sold our most creative player and the players started their summer holiday at the end of January, we’ve played 13, won 3 and lost 10 whilst conceding 29 goals. I would say that the last 4 months have been a continuation of the 2012-2013 season where we narrowly avoided relegation with the first half of this season being built entirely on the good form of Cabaye and Remy.
We’ve consistently struggled when certain players are missing and yet nothing seems to change with regards to addressing this.
Ability to develop/improve a player 3/10
Good managers should be able to bring out the best in their players and develop them into better ones. Can anyone name a player that has improved after joining Newcastle? Numerous good players have arrived and then never lived up to their initial hype/performances.
Transfers Not Applicable
Has had limited control (if any) to date, but to be honest with Graham Carr in charge of the scouting and Ashley in charge of the pursestrings, this is out of his hands. Personally I think Carr’s hands are safer anyway!
Represent the club with honour and dignity 1/10
He’s ‘attacked’ officials and opposition players, as well as blaming everyone bar himself for anything that goes wrong.
OVERALL RATING 3.5 / 10
I think much is made of the restrictions he has to work under, but personally I think he could do much better with the players and resources he has available to him, or at the very least behave with more dignity in representing the club and the region.
Look at what the likes of Martinez, Poyet, Moyes (at Everton), Pulis, Bruce, Hughes, etc have accomplished with lesser players, and make an argument that Pardew is the best we can justify!
