Predicted Newcastle Starting 11 v Swansea

Match Preview Newcastle United v Swansea
Saturday 19 April 3pm

Swansea have found their growing pains tricky in the Premier League this season.

Fighting on both a European and domestic front, the Welsh club have had to also contend with the dismissal of manager Michael Laudrup and a number of injuries to key players.

Michu is likely to miss out on Saturday and after being a revelation last season up front with 18 goals, this time an injury plagued season has seen him grab only 2 in 15 starts.

However, despite a quiet start to his career in Wales, Wilfried Bony has taken up the slack and repaid Swansea’s ambition in the big money signing, currently standing on an impressive 17 goals.

The influential Chico Flores is suspended bit other than that the Jacks are looking ok on the injury front and should pull away from any relegation threat.

Whether they increase their current three point breathing space to the bottom three rests largely on whether Newcastle can conjure a goal from anywhere.

Alan Pardew is ‘hopeful’ that both Loic Remy and Mathieu Debuchy will be available but recent weeks tell us not to rely too much on optimism.

Even if passed fit, throwing the players straight back in after a seven week absence would be a big ask, though the alternative doesn’t look too clever either. Trying to conjure up a goal from Shola, Cisse and De Jong is looking an increasingly unlikely scenario.

Alan Pardew has confirmed Moussa Sissoko won’t be ready and Davide Santon is rumoured to be out for the rest of the season with hamstring trouble.

While the official line is that manager and player have made up and he is simply carrying an injury (‘dead leg’), photos on Twitter of Hatem Ben Arfa getting on a plane at Newcastle Airport this morning suggest otherwise.

Swansea have kept the possession side of their game but looked more attractive with it, though up and down results reflect the other problem that have come their way this year.

In a positive light I could see a formation of Haidara and Debuchy as attacking wing-backs providing a real threat that could lead to chances for Remy but that relies on a number of factors.

As well as the fitness angle, will Alan Pardew keep the formation he had at the Britannia last Saturday and will he make major changes to his starting eleven?

I’ve thought the wing-back idea was worth a try for some time in the hope it could give the team an alternative strategy for providing a threat but it was the ultimate irony when Alan Pardew did bow to pressure and tried it when the players best suited weren’t available, Santon injured and Haidara not fit enough to start.

A Newcastle/Remy goal threat could change things at both ends and if he plays then United are available at a very attractive price for a home game against a lower team.

Last week I predicted the first goal at Stoke falling between 40.00-49.59  minutes at 15/2 and it came up, so I fancy that again as a value bet with the style of the two sides not suggesting a load of chances early on.
