Players Refund Fans After Shameful Defeat
Choosing the Newcastle United player of the month for March is a thankless task.
It was evident that most players were already on their holidays after recent drubbings against Everton and Southampton.
The club’s official website announced their candidates for the monthly award and Moussa Sissoko, PapissCisse and Rob Elliot emerged as contenders.
Despite a lack of ambition, half-hearted displays and countless lies, the Toon Army still turn up in their thousands, spending their hard-earned money to watch a team that are happy to go nowhere.
The majority of our 2,187 Toon fans made a round trip of 644 miles to the south coast last weekend to see their team embarrassed by Southampton.
The efforts of those in the stands were not matched on the pitch. Too many players coasted through the 90 minutes without breaking a sweat – not an ounce of passion on show.
With the exception of Elliot in goal, Saturday’s squad didn’t look fit to wear the shirt.
The fans deserve better, a lot better. They deserve at the very least 11 players willing to give everything and fight for the club for 90 minutes on a Saturday afternoon.
Is that too much to ask?
Norwich City have announced that their players are to reimburse the admission price for all of their travelling support last weekend. 899 fans made the 612-mile round trip to Swansea where Norwich were beaten 3-0.
It’s a classy touch from the Canaries and a gesture that goes a long way to acknowledge their club’s support and say thank you.
Newcastle’s players need to take a leaf out of the same book.
