Speaking ahead of Saturday’s match, Alan Pardew has stated that five of the players who beat Manchester United at Old Trafford will not be taking part.
As well as Ashley selling Yohan Cabaye and not buying a replacement, due to injury Pardew has revealed that Loic Remy may stand a chance for Southampton but not this weekend, while Tim Krul, Mathieu Debuchy and new injury victim Moussa Sissoko will all miss.
“The bigger problem is injuries in the short-term, we’ve got a real injury crisis at the moment.
“We lost Moussa (Sissoko) at Southampton, so of the team that started when we beat Man Utd, five won’t play because through injury or one who has left the club.
“Moussa has a hamstring strain and we think that is two to three weeks.
“He has been a terrific player for us and had a great season.
“Last year he was finding his feet in this division and I think he’ll get better.
“He is only a young player and this year has served him well. It is a shame he hasn’t played all the games but he will be back before the end.”
