Newcastle United Kids Show Character Against Manchester City
Against a backdrop of a poor season overall, the Newcastle United kids emerged with credit last night at Whitley Park.
United’s reserve side (Under 21s) fought a rearguard action against their visiting Manchester City counterparts and despite some late scares they held out for a goalless draw.
While they might not have featured much at the other end of the pitch, a bit like their senior colleagues, against a strong City team they did at least show the character necessary to keep the clean sheet.
The Newcastle Under 21s are only been kept off the bottom of the twenty two club table by Blackburn and it was Greg Olley who came closest to handing United a rare win when he was unlucky to see his excellent effort come back off the bar.
The crowd of 386 also had the potential for a bit of autograph hunting as in addition to Peter Beardsley in the home dugout, ex-French international Patrick Vieira was in the visiting one.
The visitors also had a certain Devante Cole in their team, son of Andrew/Andy, and who played for both teams of course.
So a battling display by the Under 21s and hopefully they can take that confidence with them into their last match of the season against Arsenal.
NUFC Under 21s: Mitchell, Sterry, Mbabu, Satka, Williams (Gibson 44), Olley, Bigirimana, Barlaser, Kemen, Richardson, Quinn
