French Club Says No Go For Newcastle Transfer
In the aftermath of Yohan Cabaye leaving in January, it was claimed that Newcastle had bid £11m for Lyon’s Clement Grenier.
Now the French club’s President has stated that Grenier will ‘100%’ still be at Lyon next season.
However, in the end, it was Frederic Guerra, Grenier’s agent, who gave the final confirmation and the reasons why the move wasn’t going to happen in the January transfer window;
Frederic Guerra, agent of Clément Grenier explains the reasons for this choice:
“It is not easy to say no to a big club like Newcastle, but Clement has finally decided to stay in Lyon. Today, with the new football system developed by Rémi Garde, Clement is now demonstrating that there is even more ability in his game, he is proving it every match.
“With six months to the World Cup, would a last minute departure at the end of the transfer window be a good option?”
Moving forward to April 2014 we now have the following update;
Lyon President Jean-Michel Aulas speaking to Telefoot;
“Of course Clement will be with us next season, 100%, that is a yes.
“There is no exit for Clement.”
Whether that is a final no is of course another question, as back in January both Aulas and the player’s agent were accusing Newcastle of trying to get Grenier on the cheap.
As always money talks but will Mike Ashley be willing to invest in the quality and creativity Newcastle United undoubtedly need?
