Alan Pardew States Newcastle Will Sign Two Players In The Summer

In answer to a question as to the scale of Newcastle United signings in the summer, Alan Pardew has stated that the club are looking to buy two players plus replace any that leave.

Speaking to the club’s official tv channel, the Newcastle manager said ‘we have to replace them (any who leave) on top of the two we are going to bring in’.

‘There’ll be this many…’

Alan Pardew;

“I think we have to reflect on what happens to the squad.

“So if there is two or three leave then we have to replace them on top of the two we are going to bring in.

“It is important the squad is balanced and has a certain level of quality that represents this club.

“There is no doubt the loss of Cabaye means we have to add quality to this group.”We have the Remy position we need to resolve one way or another and that needs to be addressed because we certainly need a player of his quality.”

A bit strange that Pardew was speaking so definitely about it being exactly  two players but it does fit in with the less than encouraging statement that was made when Mike Ashley was announced as formally joining the club board, plus Lee Charnley being given the title of Managing Director.

The club attributing quotes to Charnley saying their plan is only to bring in one or two players each season and rely on young players progressing inside the club.

God only knows what the truth is about intending to bring in two players regardless but when the talk is of replacing players who leave the club, the question must be when are you counting from and which players qualify as need replacing?

Demba Ba was sold a year and a half ago and has never been replaced, while obviously a Cabaye replacement must be seen as additional to these two new signings – though I wouldn’t count on anything these days.

You then have others such as Harper, Simpson and Perch who were all first team squad players and before people start dismissing them; for example with Debuchy injured we’d had nobody to fill in – with Mapou shocking.

The two loan players, Remy and De Jong, do they count as need replacing or are they just forgotten about?

Then what about Jonas who clearly the club are trying to push out of the door permanently, he was a first team certainty every week until he fell from grace.

I have a feeling we will all be getting our fingers and thumbs up at the end of the summer transfer window and I very much doubt whether things will add up.
