The appearance of Mike Ashley at St.James’ Park for Saturday’s match against Crystal Palace, brought speculation that he was make a rare visit to also talk about the summer transfer plans.
The Newcastle owner instead claimed to have said ‘he was very pleased’ and that ‘he wants us to keep driving on.”
However, following that win against Palace, Alan Pardew has insisted that while the owner had a chat with him, as yet Mike Ashley has as yet not revealed how much he won’t have to spend on new players in the summer transfer window;
“We are having those sort of (transfer) talks later on.
“I caught up with him afterwards and he was very pleased, he wants us to keep driving on – which is how he conducts his other business.”
Elsewhere in the press it has been claimed that Ashley has given the ‘green light’ to six or seven new signings once the player trading begins in July.
However, that will surely have to be the minimum with not a player bought in the last 12 months which has in turn led to a tiny squad and a couple of injuries meaning United are stretched to the limits.
Personally, I’d be amazed if Newcastle bought anything like half a dozen players or more, the best I think we can expect is a couple of value for money buys from abroad, a couple of loans and one or two ‘for the future’.
