Alan Pardew was asked about young players at both clubs and in particular gave a rave review for the ‘beauty and grace’ of Southampton’s Adam Lallana.
The Newcastle manager picking Lallana out as only one of a number of young players Southampton have produced into their first team, while he sees things a bit further ahead for Newcastle with only now young players progressing from the Academy to their first professional contracts.
“I have been at two clubs that are renowned for their talent coming through, West Ham and Southampton.
“But now in my third year here, this is the best we’ve been in the Academy; we’ve been given Grade A status here, we have signed four or five of our team from the youth team and they have done very well in the youth cup.
“Hopefully we can take that on and build a better foundation below.”
