Southampton defender Jose Fonte says he has ‘only nice things’ to say about Alan Pardew ahead of Saturday afternoon’s match.
The Portuguese defender is one of the players along with the likes of Lambert and Lallana, who have been on the rapid trip from League One, to now be an established Premier League club looking to push on.
“Alan Pardew was the who brought me here in the first place and we won the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy at Wembley, great memories. I have only nice things to say about him, I am grateful to him.
“We had a vision at the start of the season that we were looking to get into the Europa League. We started very well and looked good, then we had a bad period in December that dropped us a little.
“There’s seven matches to go to get as high as possible, we know that it is going to be difficult to get above Newcastle and Manchester United but we’ll do our best to get there.
“It is not decisive (today’s match) but if we win we go above them and I’m sure they will be looking at it as a big game – it will be an interesting one.”
