Newcastle Urged To Seal £8m Striker Deal
Newcastle United are being urged to sign up striker Luuk De Jong for £8m by his countryman, Vurnon Anita.
Despite a total absence of goals and even more worryingly, hardly disturbing any keeper since he arrived at St.James’ Park, Anita is convinced that De Jong will prove a success at United.
The Dutch striker has an £8m buyout clause at the end of his contract if Newcastle decide to activate it, while Do Jong himself has repeatedly said he’d like to stay.
“I hope it (permanent deal) happens because he’s a very good player and I believe it would be good for everybody if he signs.”
Luuk is working very hard to link up play and keep the ball.
“That’s a very important part of the job he’s being asked to perform and I think he’s been doing it well.
“Unfortunately, the balls haven’t really fallen for him to have a lot of chances but I’m sure they’ll come before the end of the season and hopefully he’ll take them.
“He’s settling in well and working hard, that’s the most important thing.”
De Jong has now been involved in eight United matches including six as a starter, it would appear inconceivable that Newcastle would spend decent money unless he shows more in front of goal, including actually putting that round thing in the net once or twice.
The only other realistic option would possibly be a further loan next season which maybe is a strong possibility, considering it would also be hard to see other clubs paying serious money for a striker who hasn’t scored any goals in a year.
