Newcastle United Young Talent League Table Makes Depressing Reading

Newcastle fans have recently been getting the message coming out of the club that the future is bright due to the Newcastle United young talent coming through.

While players like Adam Arnstrong look promising, having just turned 17 it will be some time before we see if he develops into a Premier League player.

However, more immediately you have to be concerned for the short and medium-term when you look at how the Newcastle United Under 21s are doing this season. You can’t be optimistic of many players progressing when you have a quick look at their league table.

There are twenty two clubs in the Premier League Under 21s league and only Championship club Blackburn are keeping United off the bottom spot. Newcastle having 13 points and only 4 wins from their 16 matches.

Liverpool are top with 35 points while Sunderland are a respectable seventh on 28 points.

The other teams keeping United company at the bottom are League One club Wolves in twentieth and Boro one place higher.

1 Liverpool (35 Points)

7 Sunderland (28 Points)

19 Middlesbrough (17 Points)

20 Wolves (16 Points)

21 Newcastle United (13 Points)

22 Blackburn (10 Points)

When it comes to the Newcastle United  Under 18s it is a bit more encouraging.

With the country split in half, the Northern part sees Manchester City lead the way with 52 points, while Newcastle are fifth of eleven with 38 points, just one place behind Sunderland who have a point more.

League placings might not mean everything when it comes to NUFC’s younger players but I’d always prefer our teams  nearer top than bottom.
