Some new analysis shows just how highly Newcastle rank when it comes to selling players, with clubs ranked since 2008/09.

The figures from the Football Observatory based in Switzerland, show income received by all clubs from player transfers since 2008/09.

selling clubNewcastle United have received 153m Euros according to their calculations, which equates to around £128m at current exchange rates.

This puts NUFC at 21st in Europe and 7th in England, in terms of generating money through selling players.

However, the six clubs who have brought in more money just happen to be Spurs, Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea Arsenal and Manchester United.

These six clubs of course having also spent significantly higher sums than Newcastle in the transfer market over the same period. In fact the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea would no doubt show countless players that they have signed for a fortune, hardly got a game, then sold for a smaller fortune.

These figures reminding us again that under Mike Ashley Newcastle have undoubtedly become a selling club, and as indeed previous analysis on our website has shown, the Newcastle owner has made (net) tens of millions in the transfer market since his arrival at St.James’ Park. With the sales of players such as Andy Carroll, Yohan Cabaye and James Milner going for figures way in excess of nay incoming transfers.
