Newcastle United Linked With England International Again

Newcastle United have once again been linked with a move for England international, Micah Richards.

While injuries continue to play their part, Richards clearly has no future at City as he has only made two Premier League appearances this season.

The defender will only have a year left on his contract this summer and City are reported to want around £7m for the player who at one time was seen as a sure thing as an England fixture for years to come.

We recently reported London media claims that Newcastle had made contact with Arsenal to take their right-back Carl Jenkinson on a year long loan next season, even though first choice Gunners’ full-back Bacary Sagna is out of contract and expected to leave at the end of this season.

However, it was reported that Wenger would still bring somebody in as first choice, leaving Jenkinson surplus to his needs, at least in the short-term. This story is then linked to this Micah Richards one as City may lose Zabaleta in the summer and are believed to be the first choice of Sagna once he is out of contract. Hence, Richards would still be nowhere near being a first team regular even if he stays.

Richards has had knee and hamstring problems over the last 18 months but Mike Ashley has been shown to be prepared to gamble on players with injury worries, if they come at the right price.

Players such as Ben Arfa, Ba, Gosling and Marveaux have all signed for Newcastle despite injury concerns and we’ve ended up with very mixed results from these Ashley gambles.

A loan deal for Richards wouldn’t appear to be on the cards as he only has a year left anyway, so the only option would potentially be a permanent deal, if the price is right…
