Newcastle United An Easy Target

I was as shocked as most as Saturday’s actions panned out; for one I couldn’t see that performance coming, but also of course our manager’s aggressive reaction that has made all the back pages.

However, I feel this has all been massively over-hyped. Yes, the whole situation was outrageous, but not just Pardew’s reaction.

It has been said time and time again by ‘pundits’ that they’ve seen nothing like it, agreed, but how many times have you seen a player place both his hands on the opposition manager’s chest and shove him forcibly out of the way?

Can you imagine the outrage if Joey Barton (just for example) had done that to Sir Alex or Jose? There would be a national outcry – yet little or nothing has been said; Meyler only received a yellow card!

Alan has left himself with little support or way out with regards to punishment, but I think Meyler has got off the hook massively.

Knowing Newcastle’s luck in overturning decisions, or having incidents looked at retrospectively, that nothing but punishment will come our way.

We’ve seen Williamson banned for nothing more than a body check at Bolton, Cabaye banned for ‘nearly’ making contact at Brighton, yet that Wigan lout getting off scot-free.

So, take a breath and accept the punishment, we’re a bit of an easy target I’m afraid.
