The respected IFFHS (International Federation of Football History & Statistics) update their world rankings of club teams on a monthly basis.
The ratings are compiled using results from the previous twelve months and a weighting is given depending on the competitiveness of the league. So three points in the Premier League is worth more than three points in a lesser league.
The latest rankings take results from 1st March 2013 to 28th February 2014.
Newcastle share 176th with Estudiantes de la Plata (Argentina), CA Belgrano de Cordoba (Argentina), CD La Equidad Seguros, Bogota (Columbia) and Erbil SC (Iraq).
The rankings work a bit like Tennis where at the end of each month you lose the points/rankings won in that equivalent month last year.
So in Newcastle’s case, this February we beat Aston Villa but got stuffed by Chelsea, Tottenham and the mackems.
In contrast last February, United beat Chelsea (3-2), Southampton (4-2) and lost narrowly 2-1 to Spurs.
