Newcastle Linked With Move For Ryan Shawcross
The latest name to be plucked out of the air by the media sees Newcastle United allegedly bidding for Ryan Shawcross in the summer.
The Stoke defender was at Manchester United as a kid but left without making a senior appearance and has been more or less an ever present at the Potteries club for the past six years.
There has been occasional talk over the years of one of the ‘big’ clubs coming in for him but nothing’s materialised. Now though the Daily Mail have ran this Newcastle link story suggesting Shawcross’ time to move on may be close.
If there is any bit of truth in the Newcastle link, whether the player would see it as an enticing move is open to question with the ongoing chaos at St.James’ Park.
However, if Coloccini does go in the summer, which looks very likely, then Newcastle are desperately short of captain/leader types.
As for the player himself, he must look at Gary Cahill becoming an England regular on the back of his move to Chelsea and with only 16 minutes of friendly football for England himself, the Stoke defender may be reassessing his future depending on whether he is ignored for the world cup in the summer.
